This is an article where we will talk about the education and intelligence of women and how it directly relates many children she will give birth to. Where it might seem logical that if someone is educated then they will be able to support a bigger family and though this is true educated women rarely grow large families.
Before we start in the title I say “fertility” but I am not talking about the ability to bear children as this is not affected by the IQ or the education of the individual. Instead I mean how many children the woman is likely to bear not how many children she can bear.
The first time that the test was carried out was in the early 1900′s it was before we had set up the system to measure the IQ of someone. Instead they looked at the men listed in “Who’s Who,” and the men who were more intelligent and there for on average had a better education were the ones who had less kids. During world war 2 they did a second test and saw different results that on average educated people had a slightly higher chance to have more kids. But later on many scientists dismissed this because it was carried out in a small area and only included white people.
After this several more studies were employed which included different methodologies and all of them shared similar results. It was found also that on average educated black women will have less children than educated white woman. The person who eventually came out with the numbers that are the most accepted today in the relationship between fertility and IQ was a man called Richard Lyn’n.
Originally these studies were focusing on IQ however later on in 1999 a test was made directly on the education of an individual instead of the intelligence. They found that high school dropouts had the most children (2.5 on average) were college kids had the lowest (1.56).
This had been a fact that has confused many people since someone who is smarter is usually more successful and there for can support a bigger family. However some of the possible reasons are as follows. When a woman marries at a younger age she has more children and on average educated women marry later in life. Also educated woman more often survive labor (the simple explanation is that educated woman go to the doctor more and there for more easily track the progress of their baby). Though this is confusing a woman who is less likely to survive childbirth usually have a higher fertility rate. There are other explanations as well but these are generally the most accepted.
